    Fighting Layer was released in December 1998 in Japan only.

    Developed by Arika, a Japanese video game developer, formed in 1996 by former Capcom employees.

    The game features Allen Snider and Blair Dame who also appear in one of Arika's other fighting games, "Street Fighter EX Plus".

    UPDATES
    There are two known revisions of Fighting Layer, FTL0 and FTL3.

    FTL3 is a censored revision preparing for a worldwide release that never happened. Some of these effects can be enabled in FTL0 by enabling the "Regulation" setting. Hit sparks are green instead of blood red, fire is purple. Blair's costume is altered to one that can only be selected with a code in FTL0. Joe's "Evil Judge" (spike ball hands) super, Ajax's mines, and Vold's pouncing specials are completely removed; significantly nerfing them and making this revision not tournament legal.

    There are further changes exclusive to FTL3. Janis' knives are replaced with sticks. Sessyu's sword is replaced with a stick and her shurikens become leaves. Tetsuo Kato is referred to in most UI with his surname Kato rather than Tetsuo. If a round is won with a super, its name is no longer displayed on screen leaving only an oddly long slowdown.
