It was intended as a lightweight sequencing solution for studio and live setups, allowing users to sequence multi-part MIDI arrangements without relying on a computer.

The PR-100 is a pure MIDI sequencer, meaning it does not generate any sound on its own and must be connected to external synths or modules.
