    MT-100 © 1988 Roland

The Roland MT-100 was a hybrid MIDI music workstation combining an MT-32-compatible sound engine with a built-in sequencer and floppy disk storage. Developed by Roland, it functioned as an all-in-one MIDI production unit, allowing users to compose, record, and playback music without a computer. It included a multi-part sequencer, a built-in MIDI sound generator, and a Quick Disk storage system for saving songs and settings.

    TRIVIA
The MT-100 is essentially a combination of an MT-32 sound module and a simple hardware sequencer (derived from PR-series concepts).

It was released in 1988, following the MT-32, and added sequencing and storage capabilities to the same sound engine family.

It includes a built-in sequencer, allowing multi-track MIDI recording and playback without external equipment.
Storage is handled via Quick Disk / floppy-based media, enabling song saving and recall.

The MT-100 could operate as a standalone MIDI composition system (“all-in-one music box”), which made it popular for education and home composition setups.

Internally, its sound engine is closely related to the MT-32 generation (LA synthesis family).

It supported MIDI control for external sequencing integration as well as standalone operation.

The interface is intentionally simplified, focusing on basic recording, playback, and arrangement functions rather than deep synthesis editing.

It represents an early step toward Roland’s later “Music Player” and “Music Tutor” devices (MT-80s, MT-90S, etc.).

In practice, it sits between a sound module, sequencer, and educational music system, rather than a pure synthesizer.
