The Yamaha MU90 was a mid-range XG tone generator designed for professional MIDI sequencing, computer-based music production, and studio environments. Developed by Yamaha, it used AWM2 sample-based synthesis and provided 32-voice polyphony with 16-part multitimbrality. It expanded on the earlier MU80 by offering improved sound quality, enhanced effects processing, and more refined XG implementation, making it a popular “studio standard” MIDI module of its era.
