    Juno-106 - Programmable Polyphonic Synthesizer © 1984 Roland.

the Roland Juno-106 Programmable Polyphonic Synthesizer was one of the most popular analog synthesizers of the mid-1980s, known for its warm sound, simplicity, and reliability. Developed by Roland, it featured 6-voice polyphony, digitally controlled analog oscillators (DCOs), a resonant analog low-pass filter, and built-in chorus effects. Designed as an accessible programmable synthesizer, it became widely adopted in studio and live environments due to its straightforward interface and stable tuning.

    TRIVIA
The Juno-106 was part of Roland’s Juno series, which aimed to provide affordable polyphonic analog synthesis for a broad range of musicians.

It used digitally controlled oscillators (DCOs), which combined analog signal paths with digital stability, avoiding the tuning issues of earlier VCO-based synths.

Its built-in chorus effect became a defining characteristic, contributing significantly to its lush pads and strings.

The instrument was widely used in pop, synthpop, house, and early techno productions throughout the 1980s and beyond.

It featured MIDI implementation, making it one of Roland’s early fully MIDI-equipped analog synthesizers.

The simple slider-based interface made sound design fast and intuitive compared to more complex digital synths of the time.

Many units suffered from failing “voice chip” ICs over time, making restoration and maintenance a common topic among collectors.

Today it is considered one of the most iconic analog polyphonic synthesizers ever produced, valued for its distinctive warm and punchy sound.
