    GEM RealPiano RP200 © 1999 Generalmusic.

The Generalmusic GEM RealPiano RP200 was a digital stage piano designed to provide realistic acoustic piano emulation in a portable performance instrument. Developed by Generalmusic, it used sampled piano sounds combined with digital processing to simulate the tonal dynamics and expressive response of a real acoustic piano. The RP200 featured weighted keys, velocity sensitivity, and built-in effects such as reverb, making it suitable for live performance, studio work, and educational use.

    TRIVIA
The RP200 was part of GEM’s RealPiano series, which focused on improving realism in digital piano sound reproduction during the early 1990s.

It used PCM sampling technology to capture acoustic piano timbres, a standard approach before advanced physical modeling became common.

The instrument emphasized expressive playability, with velocity-sensitive keys designed to simulate hammer response.

It included onboard digital effects such as reverb to enhance the perception of acoustic space.

GEM was one of the European manufacturers competing with Yamaha, Roland, and Kawai in the digital piano market.

The RP200 was widely used in live keyboard setups where portability and consistent piano sound were important.

It represents an early generation of digital stage pianos preceding more advanced sampling and modeling technologies of the late 1990s and 2000s.

Today it is considered a transitional instrument in the evolution toward modern weighted digital pianos.
