The Psion Series 3 is a 16-bit clamshell personal digital assistant released in 1991 by Psion PLC, and considered one of the first true modern PDAs.
It features a compact clamshell design with a monochrome LCD display (240×80 resolution), a full QWERTY keyboard, and runs the SIBO / EPOC16 operating system. The device is powered by a NEC V30H processor clocked at 3.84 MHz and typically includes 128 KB or 256 KB of RAM.
The Series 3 introduced Psion's unique icon-based file management system and a suite of built-in productivity applications such as word processing, spreadsheet, diary, and database tools. Storage is provided via proprietary solid-state disk (SSD) cards.
This first model established the foundation of the Series 3 PDA line, focusing on portability, long battery life, and serious personal productivity rather than entertainment.
