CURIOSITÀ
The PR-100 is a pure MIDI sequencer, meaning it does not generate any sound on its own and must be connected to external synths or modules.

It records and plays back real-time MIDI performance data, including notes and controller messages.

It is part of Roland’s late-1980s ecosystem of hardware sequencing tools, alongside devices like the MT-100 and other MIDI production units.

It supports multi-channel sequencing (commonly 16 MIDI channels) for arranging full compositions across multiple instruments.

It was often used as a “bridge device” between early hardware synth setups and computer-based DAWs, allowing MIDI composition without a computer.

Some configurations allow syncing via MIDI clock and song position pointer, but it lacks more advanced synchronization like MTC.

It typically used external storage media (such as Roland’s Quick Disk system) for saving sequences.

Compared to competitors like the Alesis MMT-8, it is considered more basic but still reliable for simple sequencing tasks.

It was designed for linear song-based sequencing rather than pattern-based groove sequencing.
