The Micronics M55Hi-Plus is a high-end, professional-grade Socket 7 motherboard based on the Intel 430HX ("Triton II") chipset. Unlike the budget boards we have discussed previously, this board was designed for mission-critical reliability, often found in professional CAD workstations or small-business servers. It supports a wide range of Intel Pentium and Pentium MMX processors (from 75 MHz up to 200/233 MHz) and features four 72-pin SIMM sockets supporting up to 256 MB of EDO DRAM with parity/ECC error-correction support. Its expansion infrastructure is robust, featuring three PCI slots and four ISA slots, with an integrated Adaptec AIC-7850 SCSI controller on many revisions, eliminating the need for a separate expansion card for high-speed storage.

The "Triton II" Advantage: The Intel 430HX chipset used on the M55Hi-Plus was specifically designed for performance and stability. It was the only chipset of its generation to support ECC (Error Correction Code) memory and dual-CPU configurations (on some variants), making the M55Hi-Plus a favorite for those running high-uptime environments like early internet gateways or database servers.

Micronics Industrial DNA: Micronics boards were known for their distinctively high-quality PCB layout, featuring heavy-duty power regulation modules and extensive heat-spreading ground planes. This design focus prevented the "thermal drift" issues—where components behave erratically as they heat up—that were common in cheaper Pentium boards of the mid-90s.
