CONSIGLI E TRUCCHI
Hidden developer credits:
Holding Player 1 and Player 2 Start buttons before attract mode showing fighter cast will reveal game credits. It can be done holding both buttons during Sega logo or whenever the big scrolling Fighting Vipers title displays on screen.
Alternate character player color:
On character select screen hold Start Button before highlighting a different character to switch appearance. Moving cursor without holding Start will show highlighted character again with default colors.
Random mode:
After inserting a coin, hold Up on joystick before pressing Start button. When you enter character select screen the text "Random mode" will be displayed above your character name. This will affect the order of opponent encounters.
Practice moves:
On character selection screen hold Down on joystick and press Punch, Kick and Guard buttons simultaneously. Once character crouches you can release controls and then manually control the moves of your character while timer reaches zero or second player makes a choice. It can be done on one player mode too but you need to hold inputs before pressing Start, nudge joystick lower left or lower right to highlight another character before releasing controls and not to press anything but Up or Down (any button will make a choice and set count down to zero).
Secret Surprise:
Play the game using any character and win other player challenges until the counter above reaches a 100 or more winning streak. When using Candy (a.k.a Honey) or playing against her, knock off her lower body armor. Instead of just losing her leg armor her skirt will disappear too. Contrary to what is written on a Sega Saturn Magazine 1996 6/14 Vol. 9 article a hundred consecutive win is the only requirement needed, playing Candy against herself only makes it easier to achieve. This can also be done during one player mode as long as player holds requirement.
Play as Mahler:
This trick will work once machine bookkeeping data reaches 15,000 versus play matches. The only way to determine if machine meets this requirement is to access bookkeeping menu screen during test mode. On character select screen hold Start button and Up on the joystick. While continuing to hold Start and Up nudge the joystick to the upper left for Player 1 or to the upper right for Player 2. When done right instead of highlighting the character from opposite side the cursor will disappear and Mahler can be selected. You have to be quick because this can only be done before count down reaches the 18 second mark.
Attract mode title switch:
This trick will work once machine bookkeeping data reaches 20,000 versus play matches. Hold Player 1 and Player 2 Start buttons on static title screen, the one after attract mode showing fighter cast finishes. You can release both buttons once a CPU battle starts. Over the next fighter cast display the scrolling Fighting Vipers title will be replaced with Candy. (This trick has been reported easier to obtain but using different requirements on XBLA port.)
Debug mode:
Game has a debug mode where you can modify some parameters and view game assets, but you need access to Service 1 switch inside machine (don't confuse it with Service mode switch). While holding Service 1 switch input the following sequence on Player 1 controls: Right, Right, Punch, Left, Right, Punch, Kick, Right, Right, Up, Punch. There is no signal sequence was successful, but when done correctly holding Guard and press Start button on second player controls will freeze game. Then pressing 1P Start button advances game frame by frame while holding 2P Start button will display a hidden menu you can navigate with first player joystick then select with 1P Start button. Holding 2P Start button then pressing 1P Start will exit debug mode (this will select the first option from hidden menu).
