    386SX-16/20CN © 199? Diamond Flower International

The 386SX-16/20CN was designed as a compact, stable, and highly compatible platform for the 386SX-16 and 386SX-20 MHz processors. While many generic "white box" boards of the time suffered from poor signal integrity and high failure rates, the DFI-branded boards were built with tighter manufacturing tolerances.

    TECHNICAL
Chipset: Often utilized the VLSI (SCAMP) or Chips & Technologies (C&T) logic families, depending on the specific revision, to provide rock-solid AT-bus compatibility.

Form Factor: Baby AT, designed to fit into almost any standard desktop or tower enclosure of the era.

Processor Support: Specifically designed for Intel 80386SX-16 or 20 MHz CPUs.

Memory: Typically supported up to 16MB of RAM via 30-pin SIMM slots, with optional jumper settings to accommodate different parity configurations.

Expansion: Features a standard ISA-only bus, prioritizing legacy hardware support over the complex, experimental VLB slots that would appear shortly thereafter.

    TRIVIA
The "Hobbyist's Favorite": DFI motherboards from this period were widely favored in Computer Shopper and PC Magazine builds because they were "over-engineered" compared to competitors. They featured better trace layout and more robust power filtering, which is why a surprisingly high percentage of these boards still power on today, 35+ years later.
