Developed by Yamaha Corporation, it featured touch-sensitive rubber pads, built-in PCM drum sounds, and preset rhythm patterns that allowed users to play along or create simple beats anywhere. Battery-powered and highly portable, the DD-9 was part of Yamaha’s DD series, which aimed to make electronic percussion accessible to beginners while offering expressive, hands-on rhythm control in a lightweight format.

The DD-9 was part of Yamaha’s broader DD (Digital Drums) lineup, which included handheld and tabletop percussion units popular in the early 1990s.
