    The ALi M1217 (often marked as M1217B) is a highly compact, integrated chipset designed by Acer Laboratories Inc. (ALi) specifically for the 80386SX and 80386SLC processor lines. It was a key component in the early 1990s for manufacturers aiming to produce cost-effective, space-saving desktop and portable computers.

    Role: The M1217 functioned as a core logic controller for 386SX/SLC systems. Its high level of integration allowed motherboard designers to reduce the total chip count, which was critical for fitting full 386-class power into smaller, more efficient board footprints.

    Performance & Positioning: Unlike performance-focused chipsets of the era that emphasized VLB or deep cache support, the M1217 was optimized for "turnkey" stability and affordability. It became a popular choice for Acer’s own internal lines, as well as for generic ("white box") motherboard manufacturers seeking a reliable, low-cost solution.

    Processor Support: Primarily targeted at 25MHz, 33MHz, and 40MHz 386SX and 386SLC variants.
